Westnet is a Perth based nationwide Australian internet service provider providing ADSL, dial-up, telephony, web hosting, and other related Internet services.

History
Westnet was founded in 1994 by Chris Thomas in Geraldton, Western Australia as a Geraldton-wide web and e-mail service, allowing anyone in the area to start learning the technology. In August 1995 a link to Perth was established, connecting Westnet users to the Internet.

The company was acquired by Mitchell & Brown Communications in November 1996, and relocated to Perth, Western Australia in 1999.

Westnet's nationwide rollout of ADSL services was completed when the ACT and Tasmania were enabled on September 6, 2005.

On October 31, 2005 Westnet completed the move to new premises in Central Park Tower, Perth, WA in which they now occupy 2 floors. The move was in response to continued growth, and requirements for expanded office space for staff and resources.

On January 1, 2007 Westnet introduced a new range of home ADSL plans featuring speed of up to 8 Mb/s, using Telstra DSLAMs. With this move Westnet dis-continued some old plans to new customers. ADSL2 is now available.

On October 19, 2006, Westnet launched MyWestnet, a new Australian internet portal providing media content and services from both Westnet and Fairfax Digital.
